20th Week of Pregnancy

The fetus is about 25 centimeters long and weighs 300-350 grams. Although your baby is still tiny, the little one pretty much looks the way he will look when he is born. His movements become stronger and if it’s your first pregnancy, you should be beginning to feel them around this time.
Your baby’s heart is beating over 140 beats per minute. His eyes have developed and he can hear the sounds of your body. Fingernails and toenails have developed. Your baby swallows amniotic liquid which will help with the development of his digestive system. The fetus is also practicing breathing but his lungs are not yet fully developed and he wouldn’t be able to breathe independently outside your womb.

You are halfway through your pregnancy and more people are noticing it. The top of your fundus can be felt at about the height of your navel and you will be gaining about half a kilogram every week now. If you were a little overweight at the beginning of your pregnancy, your weight gain will be slower.

Make sure your food contains plenty of iron. It is necessary for your increased blood flow and for helping your baby and the placenta grow.

Find information about any parenting classes available. Pregnancy is considered full-term from week 37, meaning you could go into labor any moment, so make sure you don’t leave parenting classes until the last minute.
