27th Week of Pregnancy

Your baby’s proportions are similar to a newborn but its skin is still very wrinkly. Your child weighs around 875 grams and his feet are about 2 centimeters long. His chin has become rounder and he can now blink his eyes. This is the beginning of your third trimester. Your lung capacity is decreasing now and you may experience shortness of breath.

Your enlarged uterus is putting pressure on your ribcage and is preventing your lungs from completely filling with air. But don’t worry, this is neither dangerous to you, nor your child, you both have enough oxygen. If you sneeze, cough, laugh, exercise, run or exhaust yourself, you may wet your pants. You might feel embarrassed but this is completely normal and can occur at any time during the pregnancy.

You can avoid leakages by exercising your pelvic muscles. The exercise is simple and can be done at any time. Squeeze those muscles which you use to stop the flow of urine, keep them tense for 8-10 seconds and repeat 50 times in succession. This exercise is also great in helping you prepare for birth. If your blood pressure rises, it can cause problems with vision, headaches, and swellings. If the symptoms don’t disappear by the following morning you may be developing pre-eclampsia, a condition of high blood pressure and protein in your urine. Consult your doctor immediately.
